Windows 7 beta

Yesterday I installed Windows 7 beta on my home laptop overwriting the old Vista.  The new  Windows 7 task bar is nice, but other than that, I don’t perceive much ground breaking improvements over Vista.  Perhaps deep down it consumes less resources, maybe.

Cross-OS pain

I tried to move a large file (larger than 4.7GB) from Mac OS to Vista. It was so painful that I just gave up.
Attempt: Burn file to a dual-layer DVD.
Problem: My MacBook only has a single-layer DVD burner.
Attempt: Mount a NTFS-formatted USB drive to Mac and copy the file directly.

PHP CLI crashes on Vista

I had XAMPP 1.6.4 with PHP 5.2.4 on my Vista machine. Every time I ran PHP in command line (CLI) it crashed miserably, though after completing the task at hand. I thought Vista’s User Access Control (UAC) was the culprit, but turning it off did zilch to fix the problem.
