Nokia 5800 does not display Chinese out of the box. I find that unacceptable in 2009. Don’t all modern operating systems support Unicode nowadays? Could it be that the Symbian OS has a legacy baggage? Or perhaps this phone just doesn’t have enough internal memory?
One of the attractive iPhone features was [...]

iPhone, Exchange, GCal live happily ever after
Something had been in my past 1.5 years of iPhone ownership – I couldn’t get Exchange calendar and Google calendar (GCal) to coexist natively on my iPhone. Palm’s demonstration of Pre Synergy in CES 2009 didn’t make me appreciate iPhone’s restriction more.
Option 1: GCal <=> iPhone
Apple didn’t like it. No support.
Option 2: GCal <=> Exchange/Outlook [...]

First iPhone App Store purchase
I made my first purchase from iPhone App Store today. Indeed, I pondered overnight and plunged down $0.99 of my hard earned money on a game called Ace Tennis Online. My hesitation was because:
I am not a hardcore gamer. One of my more regrettable past purchases is the PS2 and the few games.
There is no [...]

iPhone earwax
This morning I realized that I could no longer use the button on the iPhone’s earphone cord to pause or change tracks. The earphone itself worked on my friend’s iPhone, so the fault appeared to be with my iPhone. I really didn’t want to go through the hassle of exchanging the iPhone, even [...]

Where is the push?
Apple should really deliver on their promise of a push notification service on the iPhone. The notification service was originally promised on September, and we are already in November. The reason I am bringing this up now is that I just realized I had missed a few Twinkle/Twitted replies from a few days ago, which [...]

Hoping for that ideal external iPhone 3G battery
The simple fact of the matter is that I need an external battery for my iPhone in order to keep up with a whole day of window shopping with my wife. When she shops, I surf, and the iPhone’s built-in battery simply isn’t built for such gruesome task.
There are a few external batteries [...]

Upgraded to iPhone 3G
So less than 2 weeks after I proudly proclaimed my reluctance to upgrade to iPhone 3G (see comments here), I went out and bought an iPhone 3G, the 8GB version.
I certainly didn’t plan this. Just 3 days ago my stand against iPhone 3G was still, as the CEO of my former company liked to [...]

Upgraded iPhone to firmware v2.0
After a whole day at work thinking about upgrading my iPhone’s firmware, I finally came home and actually went through with the upgrade.
The download happened in the morning, as I blogged earlier. The firmware upgrade took about 15 minutes. The data restore and phone re-activation took another 2 minutes. I am still [...]

Almost bricked my iPhone
This morning my carpool buddy told me he would be 15 minutes late, so I thought, why not use this time to update my iPhone firmware to 2.0?! I thought it would only take 10 or so minutes.
I started my desktop computer, fired up iTunes (which I upgraded to 7.7 last night, with 2 [...]

MacDongle
Yet another Apple-hostile blog post: Why Doesn’t Anyone Give a Crap About Freedom Zero?. Can’t say I disagree.
I like this one’s comparison of Macs to hardware dongles. I like the article even more (and Apple less) when I think of the tight controls Apple is going to place over iPhone applications.
