USPS customer service followup

This is a follow up to my previous post on USPS customer service.

I got a callback from a USPS person this morning. This person works for the USPS distribution hub responsible for the region. He told me that his department does not deliver to our company address. Instead my company has a private courier that picks up all mails from the nearest USPS office. I brought up the fact that the delivered zip code is incorrect. The explanation I got is that the mail was considered delivered once it was picked up at the post office. The USPS person told me to follow up with that particular USPS office. I got the USPS office phone number and street address from the person in case I want to follow up.

I did a little address search after I got off the phone. The post office zip code is xxx41. The delivered zip code is xxx39. It didn’t tally.

A few possibilities:

  1. The package was wrongly delivered even before getting to the correct post office.  This would explain the delivered zip code not being xxx41.
  2. The package was lost by the private courier from post office to my company.
  3. The USPS guy on the phone gave me a bogus story to kick my case elsewhere.
  4. The USPS guy on the phone gave me his theory based on information he is aware of.

I think my package is lost and is not coming back.

  1. FWIW, I had a similar experience with FedEx at our previous company. Shipped to the company address, and marked delivered by FedEx but never made it to my desk.. I hope things turn out better for you.

  2. Really, I wouldn’t expect FedEx to make sure mistakes – doesn’t FedEx provide detailed tracking info?

  3. Yes, well the tracking info would be good to the street address (main address of the company), but once it is signed for by the mailroom there is a (literal) gap between there and the cubicle. At least, that’s my theory. :)

  4. I would think it’s easier to track down the package once it’s inside the company. After all, someone signed for it from FedEx, no?

  5. I didn’t put that much work into tracking it – Fedex could just tell me that it was delivered to my mailroom, but when I called the mailroom they weren’t able to give any further info.

It only happened once, so it was a fluke. After all, I had quite a few packages from FedEx (especially related to immigration law) and I’m glad I didn’t lose those..
